Is there anyone out there interested in playing/practicing slack key in the Rancho Cucamonga/Upland/Ontario/Claremont area?

I have been playing off the Ozzie Kotani and Keola Beamer/Nelson books.

Aloha!

Sorry for this late reply. I'm not far from Rancho Cucamonga if you're still interested in playing slack key..

Aloha!
I live in Manhattan Beach and am having a kanikapila on August 25th if you don't mind driving. It's a low-key sort with singing, helping, learning and mostly slack key. We make an effort not to be over-ridden by the ukuleles though enjoy them and dancers when they join us. I'm guessing it's about an hour drive for you, but that's not as far as salmonella who comes from Goleta, or Rik who comes from San Marcos. I think you are near Chino and there is a restaurant out there with good Hawaiian music. I'll post when I get another message from them. Also, there are others living out there who get out this way on occasion. I hesitate to post names here. Chunky Monkey and Mika'ele are both down in San Diego and it's getting harder to pry them out these days. Be sure to come to the Southern California Slack Key Festival January 19th in Redondo Beach and you will meet lots of folks if you ask around. Rik will be the guy with the gorgeous ipus up on the stage. You'll meet more folks if you also come to the "meet and greet" with the artists the night before. I would imagine there are still tickets available. Use google.....
Aloha!

Nancy Cook is a great source of information on folks in the greater LA area that play slack key.
Send me an email via taropatch and I will forward it on to her so she can contact you when she gets back from Hawaii.
Hang in there, there are plenty of us around. It just takes a little time.

There definitely are uke players & slackers in your area. They just haven't seen your shout out yet. Try getting in touch with someone from the Southern Cal Slack Key Society I'm positive they have members in your vicinity. Look up or email "Chunky Monkey" or "Mika'ele" whom I believe are members & they'll steer you to a kanikapila or two. Good luck.

You gotta give it some time here on Taropatch now days. The activity has slowed down big time over the last year or two.

I guess no one out here in this corner of California...
