This is an invite for any of you who plan to visit Hawaii in the future. Bring your 'Ukulele!
Every Wednesday night from 6 PM until 8 PM, a group of us get together on a stage at Keauhou Shopping Center, and we play music. Lots of music. Hawaiian music, a little tin pan alley, a few old rock and roll numbers... quite often there is hula.
Last night was REALLY fun! For some reason, when the full moon falls on a Wednesday night, things just go wild!
1) We had a group of 20 or so young adults from a school in Canada show up. They performed a wide variety of songs with great skill, and attracted a good audience.

2) The legendary Andy Andrews (from the Santa Cruz Ukulele Club) with his wife Pam taught us a medley of "Please Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone" and "Five Foot Two".
A friend of theirs whipped out a blues harp, and put the icing on the cake.
Andy and Pam are now residents of the Big Island!
3) Richard Gillman, from the Seattle Uke Players Association, handed out the music for a wacky song about George Washington and his ukulele. They must put something in the coffee up there in Seattle. The song was hilarious.
4) Two hula dancers emerged from the audience and joined us for several Hawaiian numbers. And the audience joined us for Hawaii Aloha.

It is from 6:00 to 7:30 at the Outrigger Keauhou beach resort. Just down the street from the Keauhou shopping center. They use the blue book plus their own pages from their website. www.meleohana.org.

Hey, Bob - we have an `ukulele player here in Seattle who will be in your area next week, and wants info on kani, uke lessons, etc. around there. Is the Keauhou session still there? Your website says so, but someone said it has been moved to the Outrigger. Mahalo. =Gregg= |

Eh, Bob! Was it the one that starts "Washington at Valley Forge/Freezing cold but up stepped George/He said vo dodio vo dodio doh/"? It's a tin pan alley song from the 20's. Kweskin's jug band did it in the 60's. I guess that dates me, eh. See you soon. |
