And Smitty's voice, oh my, words can never express what that voice does to that song. But his Hi`ilawe - unique. His Koali - wow. And then - He Punahele No `Oe. Well, you get the idea. Get this and listen to it over and over. Woh, I also love, Kiss me Goodnight. Play this on the CD player, get a nice glass of wine and your honey and snuggle up real close. And then..... GARY HALEAMAU - Hemolele -- This album is hard to come by, but is oh so good. One of my favorite songs - Keiki Mahine is on here, one of the few places you can hear it recorded. I love the song, a story so tragica about the girl from the uplands and the boy from down by the sea who were forbidden to be in love and they both comitted suicide. It's one of the sappy kinds of stories that I love. Another song of note is Gary's rendition of Ku'u Lihikai written by one of my favorite musicians, none other than Claybourne Ku`uhoapili Smith. Another beauty is Pohakuloa about the tranquility of the saddle area between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. No one is sure who wrote the song and Gary has added some of his own lyrics to this beautiful mele pana. The Sunday Manoa - Cracked Seed - well, what moe can I say. Pua Lilia. LONO - Presents Old Style -- I bought this album because I had heard his version of E Nihi Ka Hele on another compilation album. Oh my oh my was I surprised when I got this. It is chock full of very good guitar picking and great singing. For me at the time, it was great because it has so many "standards" -- songs that I needed to learn to have any type of knowledge of traditional Hawaiian music. This is a very good primer and most entertaining as well. You'll want to get up and do some hula. These are good songs if your halau does not have a musician to play the songs for you.
