Walkin' on the Jetty is a culmination of three Aloha Music Camps, many kanikapilas, hours of playing and recording. All songs are slack tunings- taropatch, Keola's Bb and Cyril's C. Over time, they evolved into a more progressive style of slack key inspired songs but are still played from the heart.

A heart felt mahalo to every one. Another magic of music is getting to meet truly good people. Finding slack key has lead to so many great experiences and I'm looking forward to many more. It's always fun, even when your hands shiver.

From a guy who shivers with stage fright so much I could see his hands shake when he took the solos I asked him to play to a recorded master of the guitar. This culminates in what I call the magic of music. Jay is a friend and a cohort in the wonderful journey through life. Iʻm proud to call him hoaloha.

I must tell you all that I was stunned when I heard this CD. Having played at gigs and kanikapila with Jay, I knew he was good --- but I didn't realize he was THIS good. I had heard very little of his original material prior to this CD.

Back in the day (the '80s & '90s) when I was hosting folk-music shows on the radio, I would have been all over this album. I would have put it in what I used to call the "guitar wizards" category - creative contemporary acoustic instrumentals. The compositions are complex enough to keep them interesting, yet there's a soothing pace to them that relaxes you while you listen. His playing is clean and the recording is clear.

As he says, it's not slack key but rather slack key inspired; he started with what he has learned from ki ho`alu, but took that training to help him express his own personal sound. I strongly recommend this album to those who just enjoy wonderful guitar music. Congratulations, Jay.

Aloha,

Just for fun here's a music video I put together with photographs I took on trips to warm places and tracks from the CD.
