This is super! plus, if you look now, you get: Walk Don't Run and others!
I used to think Classical Gas wasn't all that great...but have met and know Masaon and other folks who were around for the "Smothers Brothers" ...and through the Symphony/Bluegrass years...Always good, creative people.
The tune was written for Mason to "fool" people into thinking he was Classical Wizard/Player.
Well, in many ways, he is a Wizard...comedy, writting, off the wall stuff, and down to earth too.
The essence of the tune shows genius in melody, progression and composition.
True, Tommy E. took it to another level, and so does Kris.
But the songwriters, sometimes a bit "primitive" by todays super-picker standards is still the primary force.
And all we had back then was 33 1/2 LP records, which after learning some by lifting the needle several times, usually required some improvisation and Gestaldt music therapy...
the grooves usually got nicked after several listenings, and you had to create the missing notes!
So, first it was cassette tapes (Mark O'Connor generation) then the cd, and then all the digital and you tube learning.
I think we're in Hyper speed mode now, with pickers like Kris, Jake, and many others...except, I'm approaching 60. and the speed of sound is my max.
