Posted - 09/13/2012 : 2:22:33 PM What was the 10 string instrument Bob Brozman played at camp many times? a friend is in Peru and looking at instruments...and Charango came up. thinking of "investing"! 10 strings...double strings of "G,C,E,A,E" a bit like ukulele (plus viola, violin)! |

Posted - 09/16/2012 : 3:32:37 PM Bob Brozman sells charangos on his website. With the GCEAE tuning, if you ignore the last E string pair, then they are tuned like a tenor 'ukulele, so they are supposed to be easy for uke and guitar players to learn. They used to make the body from armadillo shells. I'd buy one, but I have too many instruments already. I really like the sound of the tiple, you can hear Ry Cooder play one on some of the Gabby Band albums. Martin made a bunch of these cool instruments many decades ago, the one I saw years ago had a warped neck and was real pricey, so I didn't buy it. |

Posted - 09/16/2012 : 10:10:11 AM Bueno, thanks Lawrence...probably a low priorty, but if one shows up, I'll try. Also Cheaper ones are likely a bear to keep in tune... Which matches my fiddle! |

Posted - 09/13/2012 : 5:57:40 PM There are many variations on the double stringed "guitar" like instruments/beasts. each charming and useful to the right hands. But Don't think it's a tiple...didn't know if this was uke talk! But we'll get it figured. Just Taropatch is my favorite search engine!
Thanks, first try worth some T Points, probably worth the same as a rupee. Namaste. |

Posted - 09/13/2012 : 3:37:05 PM I have no idea since I have never been to a camp, but are you thinking of a tiple? |
