Derick Sebastian, a fabulous 'ukulele player, is going to be in concert in Union City, CA at Alvarado Middle School on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. He will be playing with the local group Garden Island Blend. $3 for students and families, $5 for all others. NO ONE TURNED AWAY.

This concert benefits the 'ukulele program at the school I teach at. I sponsor an after school club for all students to join and play 'ukulele in addition to an elective class for 6th graders.

What has been truly amazing, and overwhelming, is the interest in this from the students. I have had one meeting after school with over 80 kids attending the club. I am still getting students who want to join in the fun.

I have purchased some 'ukuleles for the students to use in the class I teach and some for students in the club who don't have or can't afford one. I am also becoming a basic 'ukulele repair woman with strings, tuning pegs and the like. I have to admit that I am having a blast!

So if you are in the East Bay come on over Wednesday for some 'ukulele fun.

Thanks to Derick Sebastain and the Garden Island Blend for the time and energy at the benefit concert. What was absolutely the best was when they invited Karsten to play a song and then to join them for several songs during the concert. It meant alot to see Karsten get comfortable with playing with the guys.

Many, many thanks to all who came.

Way to go Teri! If I'm not mistaken, when we talked at the Nathan Aweau concert a few weeks ago you mentioned you had about 30 kids interested in the uke program--I thought that was great. Now it's up to 80 and counting? That is so cool. Must be something in the water . More ukers, more bettah!

Aloha,
Doug

P.S. Maybe I'll see you at the Wine Country 'Ukulele Festival this weekend?

What a great opportunity to see one of the rising stars in the 'ukulele world. He will just knock your socks off! Good luck to you Teri, and to all your little ukuleleists. Can't wait to hear them perform up at the ukulele festival next year!
