Posted - 03/14/2011 : 04:46:11 AM 'Buke = book', surely?
Oddly enough where I grew up, 'Buke' (or bewk) was a perfectly normal way of pronouncing book. Similarly, 'cookery book' was 'cewkery bewk'. Doesn't that happen anywhere in America? I have to confess I haven't heard it.
