Thanks for suggestions. |

Posted - 07/15/2012 : 08:19:46 AM Thanks for trying, Mark. Since I haven't lived there since 2006 I don't know what people are driving any more, and the other details could fit a number of people.
Just idle curiousity in any case... |

Posted - 07/14/2012 : 4:59:06 PM Christopher, unfortunately I forgot her name, but I seem to remember it began with the letter "M" and that she drove a Subaru 4wd stationwagon. She braided great palm baskets and was a really nice woman. |

Posted - 07/10/2012 : 5:39:21 PM Since Waipi'o has a population of 65, every one of whom I know, I'm curious as to the woman's name...
(Of course, "from" Waipi'o Valley can mean something different than that she actually lived there- family from there, family farms or owns land there, etc., so a family name would be helpful!) |

Posted - 07/01/2012 : 06:44:34 AM Thanks a ton, Duke! And for the record...I told her if she didn't pursue her uncle's invitation to learn, I'd jump on it instead! Have a great day. |

Posted - 06/30/2012 : 11:48:51 PM Great moment Pops, those are the experiences that makes all the practice worthwhile. You may have inspired that wahine to take up ki ho'alu. So cool to be validated like that too. "You geddum!!!" AWESOME!!! |

Posted - 06/30/2012 : 6:03:37 PM My wife and I just returned from our trip to the Big Island to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and I'd like to thank everybody who offered their suggestions about what to do, where to stay, where to eat, etc. We had an absolute blast and an anniversary that we'll never forget.
One really fun day at the beach we met a wonderul woman from Waipiʻo Valley. My wife and her spent part of the afternoon visiting and when I got around to meeting her we began to talk about all sorts of things, including music. I asked her if she knew where any slack key could be found and she told me her uncle was a great player who used wahine tunings. When I told her I loved to play she surprized me by pulling a guitar out and asked me if I could show her some beginner's slack key. As I showed her how to tune and some chords and began to play she got really excited and ran back to her car to get an amplifier so other's could listen. Another Hawaiian gentleman stopped to listen and he told my wife, "He's got the stuff!". Afterwards, when she told me what he said I felt like I was on cloud 9. That's a memory I'll treasure forever.
Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions. We had a great time and can't wait to go back!
Mahalo again! |

Posted - 04/26/2012 : 3:41:24 PM Thanks to KonaBob for hanging with me for lunch last Thursday during our 10 day stay. He was off island on Sunday, so we didn't get to see him play. |

Posted - 04/26/2012 : 07:00:35 AM Aloha Music Camp is another great excuse to visit the Big Island! We have one coming up on July 1 and the next one is Feb. 10. If both of you love Hawaiian music, it would be the ideal vacation. If one of you loves Hawaiian music, the other can enjoy Kahaluu Beach which is right next to the hotel. Aloha, -Konabob |

Posted - 04/19/2012 : 09:53:13 AM @ Pops, I play an hour set from 6-7 then it is open mic till around 10 depending on sign ups. List usually fills up by 8 though. Come on by and bring an instrument or use the haus (house) guitar. |

Posted - 04/19/2012 : 07:35:06 AM So much family, so little time...
Three weeks goes by like a blink of the eye.
A relaxing evening of music in Waimea sounds really good, but even a few hours might be tough. With any luck my wife will want to spend a couple days with her friends, and I can slink off and do my own thing. We'll have to see on that one!

Posted - 04/19/2012 : 03:54:08 AM What I'm doing in the flatlands of suburban Florida, I don't know.
Well, I do know- I'm taking care of my daughter, since her mom won't let me bring her to Hawai'i. I think she's afraid that if I have her, there won't be any reason to come back.
Anyway, only a little over two months before we all go to Hawai'i and my daughter finally gets to see where dad is from! Doubt I'll be able to make it out to Laupahoehoe Nui, though. Maybe I can sneak off for a couple of days...
