Today would have been the 91st birthday of Charles Phillip "Gabby" "Pops" Pahinui. He is undoubtedly one of those responsible for breathing new life into Hawaiian music and keeping it alive and flourishing. His mana is great for these 32 years after his passing, his music is still treasured and listened to and has inspired many a person to learn ki ho`alu. Moreover, his mana and his legacy live on in his chilldren and their children and their children, who continue to malama the music of Hawai`i. Happy Birthday, Gabby.
