Humans use tools for a while, then ultimately tend to become dependant slaves of the tool. The exceptions are "unforgiving" tools like musical instruments and hand tools.
If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bulls**t.

My diagram would be more like Olympus LS-11-->PC-->home-burned CD-->Klipsch Cornwalls. It just gets better at every stage. Or bigger, anyway.
Earbuds are for listening to audio books in the airport.

Maybe we should consider not fighting the ear bud. Someone could develop a hat with a built-in 12" woofer and ear buds hanging off the side. Then, all the studios could mix only for buds. I know, genious, right!  |

Sad but True....
What is left out is that the last two images (mp3 and earbuds) represent a 5,000 percent (a.k.a. 5:1 - and I am not joking) quality reduction (or worse).
