Has anyone heard or heard of this album: Summer by Coconut Tango. The picture looks like the guys are from Maui. It was put out in 1984 by Waipi'o records. My nephew has a copy still in wrapper at his Wailuku store called Request Music on Market Street. He has lots of interesting old music so stop by if you have a chance.

The album is "Coconut Tango" and the group is Summer. This was a later release by the group that originally got a lot of airplay in the mid-70s with their "Summer In Malibu" album, featuring songs like "Forest," "Kona Day" & "Understanding To The Man." It's light, breezy pop, in a similar vein to the mid-70s material by Kalapana, Country Comfort, C+K, etc. - if you like that vein of music (I do), you'd like the album.

The band's guitarist/songwriter/vocalist Charles Recaido is a buddy of mine (we are working on No`eau's first CD these days - Charlie is engineering, I'm producing); these days, he works out of Hawai`i Island, as a member of the guitar trio Kohala, and as an award-winning recording engineer for John Keawe, among others. He's also doing solo projects, busy man.

I vaguely remember that one -- it was classified as "reggae" by the distributor, as I recall.

And a big YES from me for Request Music!! I always go in there when I'm on Maui. Scored a big haul of 2 dozen pristine vinyls on my first visit, as they'd just gotten boxes and boxes from a defunct radio station on Hawai`i Island. I've even gone down into the basement, searching for "treasures" (dusty and kinda spooky down there, but I found some good stuff so it was worth it).
