Hau'oli Makahiki Hou 'Patchers!!!! It's 2015!!!

I've got a bunch of New Year's resolutions & most involve ki ho'alu.

a.) Gonna learn more ki ho'alu

b.) Gonna teach more ki ho'alu

c.) Gonna play more ki ho'alu

Of course there's the usual New Year's resolutions like: Gonna lose massive weight, eat right, exercise regularly & make a million dollars. Bwuahahaha!!! Way before January is over all those hopes will be dashed. But..........a-b-c above can & will be done.

Good luck in your pursuit of a prosperous 2015 in whatever endeavor you pursue.

I'm still stuck on (a) :)

I've started practicing ki ho'alu again over the past week or so after putting new strings on my old cheapy guitar just after Christmas.

I bought a good US-made Ovation in October, and have been concentrating on playing normal style stuff since then, so my slack key practice has been very slack.

I did get Keola Beamer and Mark Nelson's book for Christmas, so it's inspired me to start up again, although I'm still working on the second track in Ozzie's book. Kani Ki Ho'alu suckered me in being pretty easy to learn, but for some reason, Manuela Boy just isn't sticking in my mind the same way.

I'll get there though. I'm planning on getting a better guitar come March just for slack keying on, so that will help as well :)

Except for my Friday 11 am lesson from Alan Akaka and siting in with him Thursday at the Moana Terrace, I don't have anything planned. It'll be great to see y'all. 2 weeks is what I usually take for my winter stay (almost always with Kory, but he has some medical expenses that preclude his coming). We started with one week back in 2002, and expanded it to 2 on 2010. See ya soon, braddah!

Yikes Jack, isn't that a shorter than normal trip for you? I need to check the calendar to set up a kanikapila for you. How much free time do you anticipate having? Let me know my bruddah.

Hau’oli Makahiki Hou to you all. Duke - I'm coming to Oahu on 1/15, staying until 1/20. Unfortunatley, no Kory this time. Awue!

For me, rather than New Year's Resolutions it's New Years Restitution's! ...

(Sorry about using the emoticons... there's one out of the way...
... also sorry about the ellipsis, but not sorry enough...)

A pleasant New Year to all...
