Glad you posted. Let's keep posting so others who occasionally peek in will see more and more activity. You tube is def a help. I also listen to all the Slack KEy stations on Pandora and Spotify.

Aloha folks,
I haven't been on the Patch in a very, very long time.
After a long time not touching the guitar, I've been diving into some C Mauna Loa these days & watching YouTubes of Dennis, and watching/listening to the few videos of Sonny that are out there.
I've been reflecting again lately on how fortunate I've been to have had the teachers and workshop opportunities and Hawaiian music in my life.
We are blessed!
Got the 1st Pfizer a couple weeks ago and looking forward to seeing some peeps again soon!
Ross

Jack. That's awesome to hear. What an impressive profile you have. I see you are up in the PNW. Great place. I have a brother in law in Coupeville on Whidby Island. Love that area. Thanks for your post. Ron

Thanks Earl. I like Marks style of teaching. For me, his un-pretentious style and self deprication is what I enjoy. I envy you for going to the Aloha camp. I hope to do something like that some day. If you dont mind me asking how advanced of a player were you when you went? Have a great day.

Glad to see you here, rleach. My intro to slack key was also through Mark Nelson, at a music festival in Alaska of all places. I have worked through some of his Jam Play lessons too. Because of the intro by Mark, I ended up going to Aloha Music Camp three times, and taking some classes from him at other guitar camps. I have also used Keoki Kahumoku's videos through The Guitar Workshop (www.theguitarworkshop.com) and others like Ozzie Kotani's book and DVDs. (www.ozziekotani.com)

Welcome to the journey!

Aloha. I am so happy to finally be on this site. Mahalo to Andy for helping me get registered. I've been able to read your messages but not post anything until now. I grew up on Oahu but have been away except for visits for many years. I began playing Slack Key about 10 months ago and am learning through JamPlay and Mark Kailana Nelson. It's really the only style I am playing right now. I feel like I am progressing but still a long way to go.

Any way so happy to join this Ohana and look forward to interacting with everyone. Mahalo, Ron

Holy @ #$! This is like old times. It's so good to see all of your user names. Wow!

It was an outdoor jam in big plastic bubbles and a sound system. Felt like SciFi!

Thumbs and I had a great session with Gary Medeieros on Saturday afternoon. It took a bit of time for me to iron out the kinks, but, man it was fine to get back to playing.

Great to hear from you Neej. I actually picked up the phone to call you last weekend, but realized that it was probably too late in the evening, even with the favorable time change in your direction. We hope things are well there. I've been playing a fair amount of ki ho'alu lately, trying to keep my chops up. Our ukulele club has now been invited back into the Senior Center to perform 4X per month again after a 14 month time out - with proof of vaccination for all players.

Whee!...a long list for me to read at this check-in <GGG> I haven't had anything to post about, but am keeping an eye on y'all.

Yup, it's pretty quiet here these days. But a few of us keep it going.

My wife and I are both vaccinated (my second shot is next week but she got a one-shot J & J version six weeks ago). She is on the plane back from Phoenix right now. It was the first time in a year that she was able to visit her mom in the nursing home, so she took the opportunity while it was there.

I envy you playing a 1920 O-18K - that must be really sweet! I have a couple of guitars dedicated to alternate tunings, and they get most of my ki ho'alu time. As a set of strings nears the end of its tonal life, I work though all seven of my tunings on one guitar because there is nothing left to lose tonally on that set. Going between tunings is a skill unto itself.

Nice to see at least a little activity here. The majority of this forum looks like it's on life-support.
I still play slack-key on '20 0-18K, will often tune to slack on whichever other guitar's in-hand on a given day too. We had our 2nd jabs 2 wks ago but are still being cautious. Spring is springing in AZ tho'!

I am SO sunburned today on my face. The guitar buddies came over before 1 pm, then the ukulele club showed up at 3 pm. We played in the sunny backyard until after 5 pm, totaling 4½ hours for me. I forgot my sunscreen, and coming out of winter had not spent more than 90 minutes outdoors for several months. Today I am paying the price.
