I don't know if you heard that Gerry died in July. So, I'm alone, again.

Posted - 01/06/2026 : 07:05:57 AM Yo Dusty, Pulled the plug Oct 1. California finally wore out its welcome for us. Costs, traffic, crowds, goofy politics. Final straw was fire insurance. Since we lived on a canyon, we were toast. Since we originally came from here, we know what summer will be like. And it's ok. |

Posted - 12/31/2025 : 2:22:12 PM I hear you Ron. After playing Slack Key for 25 years, in my new home in Arizona, I'm playing with about a dozen folks who play in standard tuning and never heard a Slack Key song. I'm still playing in Taro Patch, but having to learn to strum and sing about 200 songs I've never played, or in some cases, never heard. Lots of fun but pressing my abilities. Some of the tunes have chords, I can't easily do in Open G, so I'm having to learn new stuff. Also, using my baritone Ukulele a lot more. Several of the folks play uke's. Tough learning for a guy 78. Most think Hawaiian music is all about IZ and over the rainbow. Have to bite my tongue some. No one probably cares what I think. I still play Slack Key every day, though although no one will probably hear me again. Carpe Diem |

Posted - 12/31/2025 : 09:08:55 AM Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy new year. I havent been playing too much slack key over the last 4 months or so.. Have been taking classes and studying Bluegrass. I spend half of my time now in the Appalachian Mountains. Talk about a difference using a flat pick rather than the fingers. Whooo Wheee. |

Posted - 08/22/2025 : 4:28:22 PM I get it, cm. Maybe not directly relevant but we left NorCal (Petaluma) 32 years ago, headed for adventure in Alaska. (You could say we were ahead of the trend). Her job took us up there, then to Idaho a few year later. We are both retired now and not looking to move again. [fingers crossed] |

Posted - 08/22/2025 : 12:25:39 PM Still here thumbs. Miss the old days when everyone's post mattered. Even stuff I disputed. BTW, for you old timers, I'm leaving San Diego for Arizona. Yeah, I know, HOT. But almost everything else is better for us. After 42 years here, the San Diego and California I knew have all but disappeared. |

Posted - 08/21/2025 : 09:18:20 AM I didn't know about Slipry1. I picked him up at his house a couple of years ago for a Saturday kani at Neej's house while I was in town. It was a challenge because he did not give the right address. (There is a 98th street and an East 98th Street in that part of town). It makes a difference. |

Posted - 08/20/2025 : 05:57:06 AM I understand, Earl. We lost Tiko Kaeo, Jaack Aldrich (Slipry1), Uncle Danny Kaopuiki, and Aunty Iwalani Kamahele just in the past few years. That's just in the Seattle area. Play mele when can, share tunes and techniques, talk story, etc... |

Posted - 08/18/2025 : 10:05:38 AM Howzit, Thumbs? I was *never* on FB to start with, so this is it for me. No need to cancel anything. I too miss back when there was more traffic here. Between moves, health issues, and even some passing away my local network of island folks has dwindled too. |
