I am sure all our friends will heed the sirens and move to the appropriate safe areas.

If you are interested, here is live real time tsunami watch from Hawai`i News Now.

Many of our friends are in Japan, as well. Don't forget our TaroPatch brother, Keonepax.
Also Bryan Tolentino, Sonny Lim, Raiatea, Makaha Sons and quite a few other musicians are in Osaka. They are safe and holed up in their hotel.

Its hard to know what to say when see all the images , and knowing the magnitude of what has happened there :(

that is a very well done and inspiring video. Its a good message for any era.
It great to see people come together to help others with relief efforts and charity. A big event like this shakes people up and stirs them to action. I only wish this was the case every day. There are so many people in the world tht need on going help. They arent one time dramatic diseasters, but on going ones and many people are suffering , poverty, disease etc. and need help just the same.
My wish is that everyday the majority of people in the world were just as motivated to make the extra effort to make a difference, and care about others. I know some are.

Arigato John . . . such a perfect song for a culture that embodies this sentiment. When released in 1969, it was a nice-feeling help-your-friend kind of song that fit the peace & love era. It's always been a great song, but your interpretation takes it to a much higher level for me.

Aloha,
Don

Wow John! Truly one of the most moving videos that I have seen. It just completely encapsulates the whole situation and puts it into proper perspective. Thank you, and best wishes to you.

Wanda, mahalo for posting this video on the Taro Patch. When I first tried to sing this song to practice for the video, I choked up and tears came to my eyes. I guess I've had a lot of pent up feelings in side of me that had to be expressed.

Keonepax posted a really moving video on You Tube as a thanks to people who are so very concerned for he and his family and indeed, all of Japan. Warning: a box or two of kleenex might be required.

John, I have to tell you, this is really a most touching and heartfelt video.

John - I am so glad you and your family are all right. My heart breaks for the people of Japan. What we have seen on the news is beyond words to describe. The nuclear threat is so very frightening as well. Let's hope things can be cooled down and contained. We will continue to keep you and the people of Japan in our thoughts and prayers.

I was walking outdoors when the earthquake hit. It felt strange, like I was having a dizzy spell and losing my balance. I then realized it was an earthquake. When I got home, I found some stuff had fallen at home. This was in Yokohama. We felt numerous aftershocks afterwards, but luckily no major problems in this part of Japan, except that the trains stopped running. People at work and everybody else had to figure out how to get home or find a place to spend the night. Some people walked several hours to get home.

Eventually on the TV and Internet, we could see the extent of the disaster, including video of that deadly tsunami. The death toll continues to climb and now we're dealing with nuclear reactor problems. I just heard there's going to be rolling brown outs to deal with power shortages.

Anyway, just wanted to let my Taro Patch friends that my family and I are all right.

I can't even believe the devastation in Japan. The videos just make my jaw drop and my heart grow cold. The damage at Santa Cruz harbor and Crescent City harbor just pales in comparison.

Having been close to the epicenter of the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, it's not enough to say that it changed my whole life. But I did survive it. However, I look at life with a whole different perspective.

For all of you folks who are impacted by this, my prayers go out to you. Other than that, I'm just at a loss of words...

Julie

Blessings all. Hope all in Hawaii are ok. Let me know when somebody sets up a way to send money. So many of you were a blessing during Katrina. My money is your money

Small inlet accelerates water speed and rise of water. Some boats were freed from moorings, some piers destroyed. And the free floating debris (boats included) crashed into boats still tied down. So far this event occurred 3 times.

I read there was an eleven foot surge in Kealakekua bay, but haven't heard anything about serious damage in Hawai'i. Luckily all my ohana live on the windward side, facing the other way- so I wasn't too worried for them. But the potential for an earthuake of that magnitude is severe- Hawai'i was indeed blessed.

On the West Coast in California highest wave hitting Crescent City (near Oregon border) was 8 ft (second wave). Caused added damage to boats in harbor from first 6 ft wave.

Elsewhere folks on coast noted the quick receding ocean exposing land not normally seen, followed by a quick uprising of the ocean level. To put it in perspective, for normal tide flow the process is over hours, while this event occurs within minutes.
