Eh, Wanda! I learned a valuable lesson from that event - when you go down stairs, it's FEET first! Head first doesn't work at all. btw, I also broke 9 ribs on my right side. They took longer to heal than the neck. My youngest daughter told me "Dad, you are really clumsy, but VERY lucky". |

Eh, Peter! My "uniform" up here in the PNW is jeans and chamois/flannel shirt, hiking boots and clean socks, unless I'm with the polka band, then it's either lederhosen or black slacks, with clean socks.

Eh, Wanda! I clean out the lint trap EVERY time - drying old diapers (aka "window washing rags") fills it up fast.
Eh, Peter! My "uniform" up here in the PNW is jeans and chamois/flannel shirt, hiking boots and clean socks, unless I'm with the polka band, then it's either lederhosen or black slacks, with clean socks. |

Well (to quote Sam Gangee) I'm home. Gary Aiko's significant other had a bad cold, and several of us at Henry Allen's festival caught it. Bummer of a way to end a wonderful month. Now to sort through the mound of mail and get back to the business of being home. For a birthday present to myself, I came home first class. Much better, if you're not feeling well. A lesson I learned from my sister - I UPS'd my dirty clothes and stuff I bouht so I don't have to deal with them until Monady. It's cheaper than the extra bag fee. |

Ah, don't get me started on laundry, Chris. I could write a dissertation. Many people also forget that ironing is part of the whole laundry process. Yes, ironing! I want a new washer and dryer -- those front loading, high efficiency ones that sit high up on a pedestal so an old person like me doesn't have to bend down and stretch like crazy to get clothes out of the dryer. and I want the RED ones!!!!! But, yeah, don't use cheap detergent. Not worth it. And use Oxy Clean, too; and 20 Mule Team Borax to get smelly odors (like BO) out of your clothes. And I can even tell you how to avoid getting pills on your knits. (Not the medicine kind.) |

Capable is the key, Wanda! I haven't met a woman yet who understands the mechanics of washing clothes. (Perhaps I don't meet many women?) They just shove a huge pile of lights and darks in there, with the ones on top lucky to get wet and none of them able to get clean as they can't circulate. Or throw a tee shirt, a bra, two socks and some panties in a large washer with the water level on high, so the clothes never touch and can't rub each other clean. Or blankets and clothes in a single load? Then either measure one cap of cheap detergent in a big washer so it doesn't even suds, or else dump in so much the bubbles overflow on the floor. And the haphazard way they fold things?
No, I never let the women do the laundry in my house. Lights, mediums, darks, whites, not too many and not too few, just the right amount of detergent for the type of item and how dirty they are, double rinse if I bleach, and folded so you can tell what it is without unfolding it and the socks don't get stretched out of shape.
Yep, it takes the method and logic of a MAN to do clothes right! It's like cooking- if you want it done right, you have to do it yourself!
(Hopefully you see the humor in that, but I decided to include this disclaimer just to ensure I don't offend- WARNING! Tongue firmly in cheek!- Although yes, I do and always have done all the laundry. And pretty much all the cooking, too...) |

Eh he skis because he gets the bionic knees. They must have some heavy duty shock absorbers in them. And Jack has too much fun allatime traveling and playing music. Ah, man, he knows how to LIVE.
Plus he knows all that cool stuff about vibration testing and stuff like that.
But I let Paul do laundry unsupervised. He does a fine job. That proves men are capable. Capable mind you. I said nothing about willing. |

Yup,
Jack leads a life of adventure. While doing laundry he took a header going down the stairs and broke his neck. He was lucky that his vertebrae wasn't severed. When he came too, he crawled up the stairs (with a broken neck) and called his son on the phone. His daughter-in-law and son came to his house and called 911. He passed out and woke up three days later.
This is why men should never do laundry without the supervision of a wife or significant other. It can be hazardous to your health. This may explain why he only wears t-shirts and shorts whenever I see him (and come to think of it, Kory and Al too; it's the uniform du jour).
And then there was the time at guitar camp in the middle of the night when he tripped over a young guitar player's bag ...... At the age of seventy-four Jack still skis though.
