Nope. I came late to Hawaiian. It was the pedal steel of Ralph Mooney and Tom Brumley with Buck Owens and playing bass in country bands in CA with Mayne Smith and Larry Blum, two great unsung steelers. But I came earrrrllly to old Mickey cartoons. The Hawaiian one is so stupid that it's wonderful - every trite cliche about Hawaii.

I do not know how true it really is, but supposedly they have gone to great lengths to be pono about presenting the culture. They have enlisted kahu, kumu hula and other cultural practitioners to guide them. You are so right, Al, that it remains to be seen. I do hope it is not a Lilo and Stitch kinda thing.

800 jobs 6000 applicants. Boon or boondoggle. Most management higher paying jobs already filled. Mostly from outside state. Most locals worry about what the ideas will be presented there. Lilo and stitch portrayals? Little mermaid in hula skirts? Long hair guys need not apply. Will it benefit Waianae coast locals jobwise? Who knows. Have to wait and see. I do know that building and decorating jobs went mostly to locals and many artists were used for the art work installed on the buildings. So some good stuff was and is happening. I agree with slkho hollywod just doesn't get it when it comes to ethnic presentations.

I find the Disney resort to be bittersweet. I'm very happy for the economic stimulation...jobs. But at the same time, just not sure what the long range impact will be with all of that, can't put it into words exactly, something I can't say for sure...just a bad feeling.
Sugarcane fields gone replaced by urgan sprawl....pineapple field reduced to tourist viewing "patch"...more sprawl...more buildings downtown....soon Makaha side will look like downtown....Los Angeles of the Pacific.
...don't get me wrong,stuggling families need jobs i get that...I'm just bummed...whateva's

My cousin Kaleo got a job there as a security guard. Supposedly it has good pay and benefits.
