I was blown away when I read they spend $60,000 on Merrie Monarch. Holy moley. |

Posted - 05/26/2011 : 04:15:13 AM Eh, Aunty. Think how much shave ice (Big Island, "ice shave") would cost for 30 folks, plus keiki. |

Posted - 05/26/2011 : 02:23:12 AM just a thought, but... aren't there at least 20, maybe 30 or more, people in his halau? Then any support people, and of course, flowers and outfits. Costs must add up. |

Posted - 05/24/2011 : 12:52:09 PM Write a letter and tell the author his writing leaves something to be desired.
But $60,000? Yikes. That is why they are all going to Japan. It is much easier to finance the halau's participation that way than selling hulihuli chicken and pordagee sausage.
After we spent a what I now know to be a dinky amount of money on flowers for our halau's ho`ike, I was told that Aunty Mapu dem spend thousands and thousands on flowers for Merrie Monarch, for their lei and their hair adornments.

Posted - 05/24/2011 : 10:20:46 AM Kinda sloppily written/edited, however - errors like: - "decisiveness" in place of "divisiveness" (wrong word, completely different meaning) - "expatriots" in place of "expatriates" (incorrect spelling, the former isn't even a word)
When I read writing like that, it puts the entire article into a poor light for me.
