Posted - 09/12/2011 : 03:45:06 AM I've loved the peaceful, graceful sound of slack key since I first heard it in the early 70's while stationed at Pearl Harbor with the US Navy. I've played some guitar over the years, mostly jazz, and often told myself that I'd try slack key some day but never looked into it seriously until now. Thanks, Andy and all the generous participants for making this a welcoming place for a complete beginner to land. I just ordered Ozzie's book and I'm looking forward to being able to make some of those peaceful, graceful sounds myself.

Hi Terry and welcome to the Patch.
You may know this by now, but Ozzie has a companion DVD to his book which is very good. He is also teaching this coming February at the Aloha Music Camp, which is a great opportunity.

Larry & Dr. Cookie:
Thanks for the welcome! Do either of you play out? I'd like to hear some good slack key live sometime.
Larry: I noticed that the book by Ozzie comes with a CD. Is that the one you're referring to or is there another?

I live just a bit up I-5 in the booming metropolis of Steilacoom, and work in downtown Olympia. We're bound to meet sometime soon!
Glad to see you on the Patch, Don |

Posted - 09/12/2011 : 08:47:45 AM There are quite a few of us in and around the Seattle area, but there are definitely a handful around Olympia as well. Hope they'll chime in soon. |

Posted - 09/12/2011 : 05:32:58 AM This music is special. I wander away each year for brief periods of time to take classical lessons (for technique) but it is always refreshing when I return. You will probably find the same to be true over time. |
