Married my Ewa Beach girl in my hometown Vegas and we moved to the Big Island 6 years ago. Now I have decided it's time I start learning the music that was born here.
I've started with Ledward's video & Keola Beamer's/Mark Nelson's instructional book about three weeks ago and I give slack key about an hour each day.
I'm here to learn and talk story while I should be practicing.

Thanks Duke...
I did pick up Volume 1 of Ozzie's too. Love the old black and white photographs in there.
I've decided to allot 1 hour each day for the rest of this year to slack key. I try to spend at least 3 hours a day with my guitar, but as the years go by I'm realizing how superior quality time is to just quantity time.

Mahalo Mr. Liberty,

As you say in your profile, I've been a fan for some time but only made the commitment to study recently. I've been learning "Ku'u Ipo Onaona" from Ledward and "'Alekoki".
Hoping to find a good instructor here on Hawaii after a few months of study.

Aloha Brett & welcome to "Da 'Patch". 6 years on the Big Island already, I'm envious. I just visited my parents in Laupahoehoe for a week early in March. I'm living in Honolulu. If you're just starting to learn slack key don't forget to look for Ozzie Kotani's " Play Guitar Hawaiian Style Volumes I & II" It's the best place to get your feet wet bar none. Disregard the late response to your introductory first post, we're usually really prompt at welcoming new members the the ohana.

What reaction? No reaction? Gee, I hope not.

Anyhow, a belated welcome to you! You've found a great spot to mingle with some very knowlegable and friendly folks.

Welcome!

I get the same reaction every time I mention Ewa Beach.
