Hello! I have been singing & playing wind instruments most of my life & was gifted with a nice little Uke, so I have been practicing my scales & fingering this year. The music made me take up an interest in learining the Hawaiian language, and so it goes...
Very interested in exploring the slack key community here in southern california (I'm near downtown L.A.), and was reading other's posts from the area.
Any choice suggestions? |

Mahalo "Julie H" and "chunky monkey" for the encouragement and information! Immersion always seems the best way to go & I will try to plan a trip around one of those workshops.
I will definitely email Pua Kai regarding kanikapila and when I might sit in, or join in :-)

Welcome to the Patch. You'll find plenty of opinions on a variety of subjects, that's how we all learn. As for learning the language and the music, there is no better way to do that than attend one of the immersion workshops in Hawai'i. The Aloha Music Camp on the Big Island, George Kahumoku Jr.'s workshop on Maui, Keoki Kahumoku's workshop on the Big Isle are just the best way to dive into this beautiful world of aloha, music, language and FOOD!
Check around the forums, and keep an eye out for announcements for activities in your area. And have fun!
