Posted - 11/06/2009 : 5:55:47 PM Aloha everyone; First, I apologize... I've been lurking around Taropatch for a while now and have been too busy learning ki ho'alu to remember to introduce myself. I guess if there ever were a time and place where I could plead temporary (?) insanity as an excuse for my bad manners, Taropatch would be it - I was (and still am) obsessed.
I fell in love with ki ho'alu during the years I lived on Maui, 1981-1999; but keikis, good surf, and work distracted me. And then we moved. It wasn't until last winter, sitting in front of a fireplace in Ashland, Oregon, plucking around with a 45-year-old hand-me-down Hagstrom España, that it occurred to me that I was older than the guitar. If I was going to learn ki ho'alu, I'd better get crackin'.
The stars must have been aligned or the gods must have decided it was time for music, because I actually found a teacher living in the forests of Southern Oregon… within easy driving distance of my home. Mark Nelson, bless his patient and tolerant soul, is taking me through the paces and slowly but surely, I'm finding my place in the music. Mahalo nui loa, Mark. By the way, I love rustling through the old files on the website, there’s a wealth of information here; but what I appreciate the most is the ohana feeling of Taropatch. Mahalo for your wisdom and for your spankin' funny jokes - there's some good ones in here.

Posted - 11/09/2009 : 08:48:36 AM Aloha Maggie,
Welcome to the patch.
We sometimes make a trip to Medford and have visited with the admirable Mr. Nelson and Annie on some of those occasions.
Keep practicing.
