Posted - 03/06/2011 : 04:53:40 AM Hello all,
My name is Niall. I'm an Irishman born and bred, now live in England, am married to a Malaysian, I work for a US company, and play the Spanish (classical). For the past 20 years, I've tarvelled quite a bit in the tropics, Asia, Europe and America and the place that has left the most lasting impression on me is wonderful idyllic Hawaii! I regret that it wasn't till a year after I visited the islands that I'm became aware of slack key guitar music - now I'm hooked.

Posted - 03/06/2011 : 07:13:07 AM Welcome! A good tune is a good tune, no matter where it's from. If you keep pickin' at the guitar, it will never heal. |

Posted - 03/06/2011 : 06:43:20 AM Welcome, Niall. Slack Key guitar music is about the prettiest music there is in my opinion. I was born and raised in West Virginia, in the hill country where families entertained themselves by making music. The honesty and deceptive simplicity of slack key, and indeed, traditional Hawaiian music is very reminiscent of what my people played themselves. Much of the Appalachian music migrated with the people from Ireland and England and Scotland, so you may find Hawaiian music touches the Irishman in you.
Welcome, once again, to TaroPatch. Come and sit a spell and talk story with us. And if you have any You Tube videos, we of course, would be delighted to hear you.
P.S. - my maiden name was Bradshaw, so you can tell from whence we came. |
