Posted - 04/23/2012 : 09:50:12 AM Just got back to Kailua from Ka'anapali, Maui and the 3rd year of the festival. It was really fun. I sat in with Alan Akaka and the Islanders, jammed with Alan, Greg Sardinha, Lion Kobayashi, Duke Ching - all giants of Hawaiian steel guitar, and several other steelers in attendance. It took place mainly at the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel, but there were concerts and the Hyatt and the Surfrider in Ka'anapali, too. Even if you don't play steel, the music is fantastic - Alan broght his band, the Isalnders, with Gary Aiko and Kaipo Ah Sing, and Greg brought Gordon Freitas and Ric Gonzalsz, both excellent musicians and singers. So, it is a fun time for all. |
