I somehow came across this on YouTube... uh, it was 6 AM here in Kona, and I was not at all prepared for what came streaming at me. Must, turn away... oh no, force is to strong... must close eyes... gasp...

Much as I love good fiddlin', it's refreshing NOT to see the banjo/player as the butt of the joke. Although I suppose that will revert back eventually.

Oh yeah? Ever played in a country bar? The chicken wire across the stage is to stop flying beer bottles, but it doesn't stop the beer. Just ask my ex, who played fiddle in the band. The bottle wasn't meant for her, it just got flung during the fight!

I saw a film of Danny Gatton spilling beer on his guitar some years back. He was using the bottle for a slide. I had thought you would drink the beer first, but I'm still learning.

In that case, be sure not to play it for them. It may not explode, but a theremin in the wrong hands is a WMD.

However, if you do bring it, I will bring my fiddle... which I have played all of three months.

Aahhh, da fiddle, an instrument that has thwarted me these many years. In my hands, the fiddle IS a WMD!

Hey Bob! I'm hoping to come to Camp in February 2011. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing you again, and having fun playing. However, I certainly wasn't thinking in terms of Theremin! Tell you what, though, If in a year's time I have 1)Got my act together, 2)Learnt how to play the thing (which I suspect is the 'hard part') and 3)Worked how to explain to the Customs and Exise officials what a Theremin is, and how no, I don't intend to use it in an explosive device.

At the moment, the only way I would wow anyone with my talent is to make them think "Wow, that sounds terrible! When's this idiot going to shut up and go back to England!"
Konabob Posted - 01/27/2010 : 08:38:11 AM
Well, great, Trev. Make sure you bring it to Camp. I am sure we can wow everyone with our combined talent!

I suppose at this point I should confess that I have actually got a Theremin. I've not tried to play it, not having a suitable working amplifier, but I reckon it wouldn't take me too long to get some sort of tune out of it. It's on my ever expanding list of 'things to get around to when I've got a bit more time'.
