I'd like to get some feedback from bass players about the Kona bass. I've read good comments from uke players, but I'd like to know how flexible bass players feel it is compared to an electric upright/double bass like the Stagg. Or an EUB like the Dean Pace. Or even a regular electric or electric/acoustic bass.

Can it be strung differently (say EAD)? How's the sound - deep, punchy? Sound at all like an upright bass?

I just stuck a new video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RM3n_iX_uMU
I don't often play with rock or blues bands, but had a good time last night.

I would concur with Retro. The Walkingbass is really easy to learn if you are not already used to "standard" tuning. It's strengths are its warm tone, light weight, and eye catching design. If you already are entrenched in standard bass tuning, get yourself something standard.

Some good chat about it at http://www.taropatch.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=9407

Consensus seems to be that bass players aren't as comfortable with it, due to the mental adjustment to the tuning, but that people coming from a slack background take to it very quickly.
