Geez, I havenʻt posted here in ages. PBS Hawaii aired a wonderful half hour show featuring Led Ka‘apana and his sisters Lei, Rhoda and Lehua. It was shot in Ledʻs garage in the middle of a rain storm on the evening of May 29. The production is outstanding and worthy of an award for capturing this rare performance of the family. It was produced and directed by Roy Kimura, a local boy who also grew up in Kaneohe. Because of the rain, and the limited space available, the cameras were very close to Led and his sisters. This gave the show a sense of intimacy that you donʻt often see in a music production. It was as if you too were in Ledʻs garage that night. It captured all of the little details that are often overlooked - the interaction, and little nuances between the siblings. Their music is raw, sweet and beautiful - Hawaiian music doesnʻt get much better or more soulful than this.
