Posted - 03/06/2012 : 10:30:18 AM Does any one have a photo of Aunty Alice Nāmakelua? Keola Donaghy is looking for one to accompany his paper that will be published soon in Hūlili. The paper is about the changes that have occurred in the way slack key guitar is taught. Aunty Alice Nāmakelua is included, her descriptions of how she learned, and Keola Beamer's recollections of how he learned from her.
Keola seeks a suitable picture to include, and it must be one where he can obtain permission from the copyright owner. Suggestions using Google will not suffice. |

Posted - 03/07/2012 : 07:26:11 AM Aside from querying Auntie's various students (which would include Keola Beamer and George Kuo) for personal photos, I wonder whether Keola D. has chased down whoever owns the rights to the photos used on her Hula LP. Hawaii Calls owns the label and thus controls the music, but Flip McDiarmid probably has some idea of who owns whatever other rights might be attached to the LP package. With any luck, HC owns it all.

Posted - 03/06/2012 : 12:20:18 PM There are a few pictures on google images. One suggestion might be the Hawai`i State Archives. What documents they have there could just amaze you. I wonder if perhaps Bishop Museum has? Or could a still picture be made from this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=indIwSadW-w |

Ken Emerson mentioned that Aunty Alice taught him slack key too. Was fun to watch him play some Namakelua licks. Don't know if he has any pics.
