Would love to find some tab for Sonny's Slack Key #2 online. Can anyone point me in the right direction? |

I found these 3 pages, but all I see is musical notation, no tab. So may not help some shade tree pickers.
It's of interest and use to ME, but without some training and familiarity of note reading, it may be limited to others. Also I have the "Red Book" (but tis' cumbersome to use without a little copy/pasting to make working copies...
The old style tab doesn't bother me (although I'd love to see a modern tab, without extra references to "repeat measure 11-18" etc. That would be easier.
Glad I found mine on eBay--think I paid $35, (yikes) And being OOP, It's in the vault with a few others!
I think there's interest--among us! As to financially for publishers, well, we're a dedicated but somewhat small SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP!
Maybe we should call ourselves "The OOP" party.
Which also describes the way I play-sometimes. Definitely OOPS!
How'd this topic shift to Leonard?!

Also, Sonny's recording is taropatch, BUT everythging down two half-steps..F "taropatch", if you're playing along. And maybe it was mentioned...it's just I'm a poor, quick-scanner, who misses things in the message!
F taropatch is pretty good for getting things in a better key for singing, like Dennis Kamakahi did for "Wahine Ilikea".
Then you can always capo--but watch the dots--they're different!

Not many slack key songs are available as free online tab. And this song is not in any of my slack key books. However, free tab for "Liloa's Mele", another song from Sonny's "Endlessly" album is available at Ozzie Kotani's website. The liner notes state that "Slack Key #2" is in G taro patch tuning. Probably the best way to learn this one (aside from taking classes with Ozzie) would be to study the youtube videos of the song. I'm pretty sure Fran Guidry has a recent video of that song. I've been able to figure out several different songs by studying youtube videos by Fran and Sir Duke. (thanks guys!) Software like audacity can also slow down songs enough that you can sometimes decipher them as well. |
