I'm wondering if anyone can tell me which tuning Led Ka'apana uses for Pu'ianahulu on the Force of Nature CD. If I can learn to play this, I can die and go to heaven.

When Cyril was in Seattle last fall, he said that his dad, Atta and Sonny played Pu'uanahulu in C tunings, each his favorite i.e., Gabby's C ,Atta's C and Sonny's C. He showed them all to us.

My repetoire is competely in open G, Taro Patch Tuning, can play da kine and sounds good enough for me. I'm self taught so, lolo can do as good as lolo can!
Seriously though, I haven't heard Led's version. Since I am limited (for now) to G tuning, playing this song is smooth and effortless for me, try it!

OK, my bad. Second listen, with a tuned guitar in my lap, and the key is D, tuning wahine. It's drop C with a capo at 2nd fret. This is a common choice for Ledward's vocal accompaniment.

here is the link to buy the movie at mele.com. It's called Kīhōʻalu-Slack Key, The Hawaiian Way. You are going to love this documentary.

So that's where "Jus press" came from?

I'd love to see the movie. Is it available?

Mahalo.

In Eddie Kamae's movie Ki Ho'alu, Ledward Kaapana tells the story that Uncle Fred Punahoa said to him that you can play slack key in standard tuning. When he asked Uncle Fred "How?" the reply was, "Just press the right strings."

You got to look out for Led - he'll play anything in any old key. I've seen him play out of standard guitar tuning to songs associated with slack key. He has totally mastered the guitar.
