I made it back from Iraq on the 4th of July 2010. I've been working my regular job (wharf)and I put in my retirement papers for May Day.
I retired from the Army (32 yrs.) on my birthday 2011, mandatory 60 yr. kick in the okole.
I still haven't learned radio hula, but I finally got the hang of Taro Patch G tuning.I increased the number of songs and I'll be able to get my nahenahe going now that I've retired.
I should have gotten in contact earlier but my tour lasted longer in the US than "in country".
Good to see the familiar tags once again, life is good!

Gary, there is another, older, version of Radio Hula. I learned it from Gary Haleamau. Ozzie plays that version, as well.

Mahalo nui for the aloha you send from the heart. I am also a Viet Nam era vet, one day no good, next day a hero.

Hey Fred,

I want you to know that there were a lot of us praying for your safe return, and a quick end to that war. But that was not to be so. Anyone who did not appreciate your selfless sacrifices has never been in battle.

Those of my friends who went there came back completely different persons. I am so sad for the way you veterans were treated, but know that there were folks who felt for you, cared for you, were thankful for your return.

Julie, Class of 1965

Mahalo nui, hey ricdoug, I was a Jarhead from 70-74! It's great to be appreciated for my service. It wasn't that way in 1970. In Iraq my guitart came out of my case twice; once when I got there and again before I left.

+1 to thanks for your service!

"Radio Hula" is a hard one to count beats/notes properly in one part; why not just play it as best you can? If it's recognizable, then it's just your version

All right, Gary! Welcome back to the music (& thanks again for your time in the service).
