We watched a DVD by Eddie and Myrna Kamae last night and I was really touched by it. It was titled "The Hawaiian Way - The Art and Tradition of Slack Key Music". Their clear and sincere emphasis on the connection between the music, the people, tradition, the families and the land was quite moving. Near the end of the show in Scene 8 - Traditions, Ledward Kaapana plays a slow slack key piece. Does anyone know what the title is? It’s beautiful! I’d love to learn it.

Mahalo.

Kory:

Thanks for the tip on the You Tube and on Kermet Apio. I especially liked his version of Ulupalakua with his daughter doing the hula. Loved the cowboy moves!

Gary Haleamau plays a version and sings the lyrics. Kermet Apio plays a good version on YouTube.

How's it going?

Fine, Terry. There is no song I play more than this one. I learn a lot from it, technically as well as getting around on the fret-board. This especially when one detects the many variations and versions around. I believe it's said that Kaapana never plays this tune the same way twice.

That's right, you were interested in that one too! How's it going?

Just gotta learn it now.

Have fun Terry. A small warning, though. Radio Hula may cause addiction problems.

Yer welcome! I'm gonna try and make it.

Lee:

Thanks so much!!! I'm such a newbie! I probably should have known it already.

Luckily I just bought Mark's book a week ago so I'm set. Just gotta learn it now.

I see you're from South King County. Are you going to hear Ledward and Fran at the Triple Door?

Regards.
