I've been enjoying some videos of Mark Yamanaka playing sweet slack key-style accompaniment and pa'ani breaks in standard tuning. I've heard similar techniques from Willie K. and Chino Montero. Who else plays like this as accompaniment for themselves and for others? I like hearing Dwight Kanae's sweet accompaniment licks, too.

Agreed, Fran. I know that Mike Ka'awa is leading the band, and the rest of the band is the same as when Uncle Eddie led it. Even back in 2006m Eddie wasn't taking an active role in the band. |

Jack, since Uncle Eddie no longer joins the band I don't think they're using that name.

Peter, got it. We were there but our hula sisters had just arrived from Cali and were toast, we left about 9, just as they were starting to plug in.

Is the music at Honey's every Friday and Sunday night? I just booked a cottage rental in Kailua after reading on here about it being a great place to stay for a couple of weeks. We've been going to Hilo for the past several years, but a couple of years ago we did do the Waikiki thing, for about 9 days. That's 7 days too long. If it hadn't been for the Kanikapila Grill I would have gone crazy. Our trip is still a few months out but the cottage I wanted was booking up fast. Can you post the times of the music, and recommend a favorite meal @ Honey's? The place gets really good reviews for the food.

It would be good to see you and Lynn this weekend. I donʻt know the time but most likely the same place.
Friday nite Mr. Slowhand was really going to town with Harry on all the old songs. We walked over later after rehearsal and jammed with them through some really extended versions of the Leonard Kwan rep.-- quick tempo, high energy and of course a lot of improv. Definitely, Hawaiian soul music. Iʻll see you guys this weekend. PM |

I've seen Led play convincing Slack Key stylings in standard tuning many times, and also "da udda way roun" too. 
You ought to come out to George's Workshop again some time, Led usually shows up most years.
