Anyone worked out Kapalua Bay by Keola Beamer? I'm about ready to learn it from the cd, but wouldn't mind having a back up shortcut to check against.

Simple tasks, Kane, simple tasks. Getting dressed, eating, charging your phone, etc. Maybe even when changing strings. |

The CD should have the tuning. That should be the biggest help. Try listening to the tune while doing simple tasks (cleaning, cooking, etc). I find that I can hear nuances then. Remember also that Keola is classically trained and that his fingerings reflect that. |

No tabs or music, but here's a couple things that turned up:
from liner notes on the CD "Soliloquy:
2. Kapalua Bay Tuning: Solo nylon string guitar in C Wahine "Keola's C" (C-G-D-G-B-E) Keola's tribute to the region of Maui where he used to play, Kapalua Bay reflects the colors of sunset over the water. He plays a nylon string guitar in what many slack key players call "Keola's C," since he is the one who has most prominently recorded in it. In this Wahine Tuning the major 7th note is the 2nd string B note.
also, a New Zealand guitar player posted a nice version on You Tube, and is playing in a C tuning...I assume it's the same one Keola uses.

she plays on a nylon string...
It might give you the basic left hand positions.
While she didn't play a couple of the iconic Keola Bass-fill/Turnarounds, the turnaround should be something you can find or figure out... it's one he uses often.
Sounds similar to his opening bass-turnaround run in "Dancing Trees" (and heard in other Keola song arrangements), Dancing Trees is a Keola tab I like and available (tab and recoring download) for purchase on Keola's website--by the song, so not too expensive.
and without looking up the tab for Dancing Trees, which is somewhere in my stacks, I believe it's also in this "Keola's C" wahine tuning, a Keola favorite, with part standard (on the 4 high strings, but uses the low C and G to make for nice roots and some alternating bass. |

Thumbstruck - Mahalo for the suggestion. I checked Keola's site and the books I've got (including his) before I posted and couldn't find anything. Guess I get to fly without at net on this one, which is fine...
