Back in 2014 we joined up with friends for a party at Kailua Beach Park and of course we brought guitars (and cameras and a recorder). Led kicked off a tune that was slightly familiar but different, a little taste of "First Slack Key" mixed with part of "Nanea Ko Maka" and a few extra tricks here and there. When I asked Led what it was called he said we were right by the Lanikai boat ramp so call it "Lanikai Slack," which is when I realized that he had just made up a new song on the fly.

Jump to 2023 and when I started looking around for a song to record I thought it might be fun to take a shot at Led's spontaneous composition - I'm only slightly embarrassed that it took me two weeks to learn a tune that Led made up in real time while hanging at the beach (grin). When I told Led about my struggles he said not to worry about getting every note just right, that I should relax and make it mine. I just hope I got enough of it right to use the same name (grin).
