Jesse Tinsley ======================= Great job, Jesse. A better rendition than this one will be very hard to find. |

Rhapsody.com is good too. You can download single songs of most original recordings. Of course it cost 9/mo for the privilege but sometimes it is worth it.
Al, I am a huge fan of Rhapsody. For the price of one album download a month, I can instead listen to an unlimited number of albums and not have to store the MP3s anywhere.

Posted - 04/21/2010 : 3:52:06 PM There are many, many recordings of this. The easiest way to find a recording you like is to go to mele.com and search by the title of the song. You may want to use only Kanaka Waiwai in the search. Many songs title it merely Kanaka Waiwai and others do use the full title as written by Johnny Almeida, which is Iesu Me Kanaka Waiwai. (Notice: spelled with letter "I".
In 1915, he wrote the music and "fixed" the words of a Biblical passage and offered it to the Mormon Church. His gesture was turned down when the piece was deemed too "hula sounding" and unsuitable for the worship service. From liner notes: John Kamealoha Almeida 1897 - 1985, Cord International/Hana-Ola Records, HOCD49000
It is so spooky that you asked about this, because Paul and I were just going over the liner notes to this recording today. How timely. |
