Aloha,

I haven't posted here in a few years, since we came back from a visit to Kailua where I lived as a kid.

After visiting Oahu 3 years ago, I was hoping to find time to learn slack key, but I've just been too busy. I regret that we didn't get to see any hula or hear slack key. We're visiting again this year for two weeks over Christmas and I don't want to make that mistake again! So, does anybody know of events like that, small if possible, windward side would be good.

Mahalo,

Pat

Honey's at the Ko'olau Golf Course in Kaneohe. Mike Ka'awa, Analu Aina & Paul Kim on Sundays. Ko'olau Serenaders with Albert Ka'ai playing some ki ho'alu. You never know who might show up to sit in on either night.

Sunday evenings at the Marriot in Waikiki has George Kuo, Martin Pahinui & Aaron Mahi. Best slack key show after Ledward at Kona Brewing. Marriot also has the Keawe Ohana on Thursday nights.

Pau Hana Lounge on Kee'amoku has Ho'o Apo, Bubbles & guests. They will blow you away with their power driven music & huge vocals. Chico's on McCully has Paul Robbins & friends who are awesome too.

+1 on Kani Ka Pila Grille. Weldon Kekauoha has a regular night there also.

Yikes!!! I almost forgot the main Hawaiian music venue. Corner Kitchen on Kapahulu just down the road from Leonard's Bakery. Acts who have regular nights there are: Hi'ikua, Waipuna & Kupaoa. Food is a little pricey but ono as heck......And this..You can bring your own booze!!!! I've seen people bring in their own coolers full of beer.

Ledward plays Sundays at the Kona Brewing Co in Hawaii Kai. Food sucks (unless Andy Wang is treating haha) so eat before you go and enjoy some brewskis while listening. Also, if you can, I highly recommend you check out the Kani Ka Pila Grille in Waikiki - Kawika, Cyril & more play there http://www.outrigger.com/events/oahu-waikiki/nightly-entertainment-kani-ka-pila-grille
