Mahalo for all of you that continue to support Hawaiian Music in San Diego. Over that last year or two it has been difficult to manage such event that brings talented musicians.

I did have a difficult year with the passing of volunteers that have supported my efforts from the very begin.

Hawaiian music has taken a big hit, even in Hawaii. I love Hawaiian music and I want to continue supporting any way I can. Who knows what tomorrow brings. I hope I can continue to bring this music to San Diego.

Mahalo a me Malamapono,
Tula

Hi Terry,

Thanks for your post-show round up. Sorry to hear about the light turn out. Sounds like a fantastic bill to me.

Aloha to you and Mary!

My annual follow up on Tula's Christmas show. This one was bitter sweet. It was good seeing Patrick and Chris Lau again (old friends) and Mary and I got to talk story with David Kamakahi (another old friend) about his dad and mom. David bailed from his bank job and is doing music full time, so it looks like Waipuna is going to make it. They sounded good. It was my first take on Mark Yamanaka and I think he and his guys stole the show. I really liked Bert Naihe's playing and the tunes where he was featured. I bought his CD. These Hilo guys were very good. Finally, the bitter part. It was tough watching Jerome Koko do a solo gig. He was entertaining and is, in his own right, an accomplished singer. But after personally attending 12 of Tula's 16 shows, it was hard not having the Makaha Sons there.

Overall this was a satisfying concert, although I think Tula might have her hands full if she intends to keep doing it. I've been at her shows with hundreds in the audience, several standing room only, and a couple of them were spectacular. One year the Makaha Sons and Ho`okena split the bill. Another year, the Sons had to follow Willie K and that show might have been the best ever for me. This one, had a considerably smaller audience and I wonder if NOT having the Makaha Sons there was responsible.

As one of the few remaining people willing to take on booking Hawaiian talent into San Diego, I hope she can continue. She has had some dedicated people helping her over the years.

Ok Tula, I have to ask. No Makaha Sons (I see that Uncle Jerome is coming)? I will still come, but after 15 years, what's up.
