I don't know if any of you picked up on this with Tula's Christmas show announcement, but... After 15 years of Makaha Sons at Christmas, only Jerome is coming this year (It's still a good lineup). Auntie Tula told me that Moon had retired, but no word about what he's going to do or if this means a practical end to the Sons. IMHO, Moon is the most underrated songwriter in Hawaii. I've been wishing for a solo effort from him for 10 years. Any comments?

Moon retired (somewhat) publicly from the Makaha Sons on July 3 of this year. He aims to explore more of the possibilities that he could not make time for as a fuil-time performing musician - specifically his endeavors in hula and grooming young musicians who want to play music in the Makaha Sons style. And these are two wonderful things for Hawai`i!

Moon was also very clear that the Makaha Sons would go. They always do.

Moon has played a Martin parlor the last 5 times I've seen him live. He said it's a travel issue - fits in the overhead.

What model Takamine are you referring to?
I tried looking at photos but all I ever see are Ovations.

I think Jerome is trying to figure it out, so hopefully it will be soon.

I'm still bringing Jerome with Waipuna, Mark Yamanaka, Patrick Landeza, Nappy Napoleon and the beautiful dancers of Halau o Na Alii and Healii's Polynesian Revue.

Check out tulaproduction.org - tickets are avaiable now.

YIKES!! Say it isn't so!!! when I bought my Takamine Elec/Acous., I looked for the exact model Moon used, found it, and its my main "go to" slack key guitar to this day, because of him.
...let's hope Makaha Son's continues in some new encarnation
