Byron Yasui, a ‘Ukulele virtuoso from Hawaii is offering a clinic. Dr. Yasui can dazzle you with anything from classical, to jazz, to traditional Hawaiian Music. With charm and persuasive gracefulness he will help you take your ‘uke playing to new heights.

Cost: $25.00 per person
Who: Advanced Beginner and up.
Class Description: The workshop will consist of a variety of topics with flexibility depending on the desires of the students. Worth the price by all by itself, will be a demo of various types of instrumental soloing on the 'ukulele: plucking melodies only, plucking melodies alternating with plucked or strummed chords, melodies alternating with arpeggiated chords and/or moving inner voices, chord/melody approach (tremolo strum style or rhythmicized style). The last half hour will be a demo and discussion about arranging for ‘ukulele, a Yasui specialty. Other topics could be
• Concepts on how to find chord fingerings and their inversions throughout the fingerboard.
• Chord substitution concepts.
• Strumming techniques
• Effective accompaniment for your singing

Bring: Bring a ‘ukulele preferably tuned in C with a high G, a recording device (recordings for your private use only)

Private lessons available: For advanced students there will be two 1.5 hour time slots available that day. Price $100 each. Please contact Dr. Yasui ahead of time at byasui @ hawaii.edu
