Posted - 02/12/2012 : 07:03:35 AM I know that some people just "don't do Facebook". That's OK. Facebook did have a lot of problems getting their act together, but with the big public outcry about privacy last year, they seem to have gotten their acts together. There are a lot of great photos showing up on FB right now. Many of them posted by the kumu. Alan Akaka, Herb Ohta, and Ozzie Kotani have all been posting photos and words of praise for their students. Many campers have also posted photos! What fun! Aloha, -Konabob |

Posted - 02/19/2012 : 06:36:24 AM The movie was very sweet indeed, and touched all of us. I only met Auntie Nona once, and very briefly, but the woman was truly amazing, and this film gave a hint of how great she really was. Kenny also showed a short film about the devastation at Molokai'i Ranch, the killing of all the coconut trees. There were gasps of outrage an a lot of sadness from those who had been there... |

Posted - 02/18/2012 : 6:07:04 PM Oh, and how was the movie premiere? I remember them filming Auntie Nona during Moloka'i camp, would have loved to see that movie. Probably would have cried seeing that beautiful Moloka'i beachscape, that was so very special to us all! Sniff...

Posted - 02/18/2012 : 6:04:19 PM Yikes, Dusty! If you saw a glimpse of me, that must have been my ghost, who so badly wanted to be there...
You know, if you're on Maui in June anyway, hang around another week and then go to AMC on the Big Isle. I'm going to try to pull that off, providing I can get my finances in gear.

Posted - 02/16/2012 : 08:20:15 AM Hi Dusty, Keola will probably announce the dates for February at the end of July camp. If we find out sooner than that, it will be posted to http://www.alohamusiccamp.com/ Aloha, -Konabob |

Posted - 02/16/2012 : 07:28:54 AM Nice pictures. It was good to see Keith and Dave. I caught glimpses of Julie, too. Is there a date set for next Feb? Gerry and I want to attend.

It was a great camp, with Alan Akaka leading the kanikapilas and getting his beginner steel class to each take improv solos at ho'ike; an introduction to Ozzie's Kona Hemo tuning and the haunting tune he named it for; Uluwehi Guerrero's hula that he taught and his wonderful singing; 'Ohu Gon's chanting and his sharing of his knowledge of all things Hawaiian; Dennis's always wonderful guidance to his 'ukulele builders; Moana's hula and lei and just being Moana; Konabob for all his coordination; Herb's teaching of 'ukulele technique and for overflowing the stage with all his students; and Keola for his gentle teaching style and for inviting his advanced class to share the stage for the hanahou at the Beamer family concert.
You know the problem with lists? Things that deserve mention sometimes don't get it. I'm sure that's the case here as well. Apologies if so. |

It was a wonderful week playing music, learning new oli and crafts and catching up with friends. New friends were also made, and it will be very hard to go into the office tomorrow. |
