I just got back from Keoki's camp, and it was just wonderful - once again.
John Keawe, Sonny Lim, Herb Ohta and the other teachers were a joy to be around. The concert yesterday was held in a new venue - a charming old building in Pahala that has been refurbished and is light, open, dry (oh, yes, it rains in East Hawaii!) and held a crowd of 80 or more. John and Hope Keawe opened the concert with a wonderful set of songs and hulas. It was the first time I had ever heard Sonny Lim do a solo set... Shoots, that guy has a beautiful voice!
Keoki worked out an arrangement with the Big Island 'Ukulele Guild. Dennis Lake presented 13 koa 'ukuleles to Keoki, and he gave them out to 13 young musicians who had each fulfilled a contract to attend 30 classes. These kids are all hard working and were so excited to receive these instruments.
We had 4 students from Japan this year, and a fellow from Washington DC. Several from the West Coast.
Amy Stillman was a big hit. She taught us how to recognize parts of speech in Hawaiian, and how lines in songs are broken up based on these parts of speech. Fascinating!
Once again, thanks to all of the wonderful students and faculty. I look forward to seeing you all again...
Aloha,
-Konabob

Oh how I wish we could be there. Amy Stillman's part in the workshop would be so precious. I urge those going to take advantage of her mana`o. She is "the" expert on Kaulana Na Pua. What a wealth of knowledge she has, quite the learned lady (PhD), and lots of aloha.

Updated information has now been posted -- "faculty" will be Keoki Kahumoku, Herb Ohta, Jr., John Keawe, Brittni Paiva, Sonny Lim, Amy Stillman, Konabob Stoffer, and Leilehua Yuen.

Got voicemail from Keoki yesterday -- glad to hear he's on the mend, although he sounded really, really tired.

As all have stated, camp is NOT cancelled, but will most likely be downsized somewhat.

Get well soon, Keoki!

Aloha All,
Jus' wala au with Nancy, who says Keoki is diagnosed, treated and on the mend. Best wishes for wellness for you, Keoki! (It also might be natures way of saying you should share more of the workshop work. We students know, in words your makua kane told your friends once, "how to use a shovel..." Rest up!).
Special Aloha to all planning to come to Pahala. I ola na makamaka!

What Andy said. I send my best to Keoki. All our aloha and best wishes to a fine person.

I spoke to Keoki too. What Konabob said.

As of now, the camp has not been cancelled. I hope Keoki is feeling better.

I just got off the phone with Keoki. He is not feeling well at this point, and they don't know exactly what the cause is. He may change his mind, but at this point he may simply downsize the camp.
Aloha,
-Konabob

PS - Listened to your show this morning Aunti... always a pleasure!

I just heard from Nadine Kahumoku...

LEDWARD KAAPANA has been added to the list of instructors! OMG!!!!

One more thing. They are offering a discount for anyone who attended
George Kahumoku's camp in June.
