Hi Fred,
I am a lapsteel player, (I play in TaroPatch G and G6th). Since I am very familiar with the tuning, I created the Kona Walkingbass which has only 3 strings, and is also tuned to TaroPatch G.
Most of the uke groups on the Big Island now use these basses, because they are so darned easy to play, and because they have nylon strings, the sound blends nicely with the ukulele.
If you are curious, check out the videos on my web site.
Aloha,
-Konabob

Hi Fred -

I've had an Ashbory for many years & I love it .... The short scale takes some getting used to if, like me, you are used to a Fender bass. But it is light, sounds great, portable, and did I say it sounds great?

Tune the Ashbory just like a regular electric bass--or string bass, for that matter: E-A-D-G (lo to hi). Way down in the basement. Those floppy silicone strings can take the low pitch.

Pick up some talcum powder to dust on your fretting hand to make the slides smoother.

Lots of ukesters are now playing the various "uke-basses"-- essentially the Ashbory concept wrapped up in a ukulele body. Same deal.

Good luck!

Hey Bob! I bought one of your basses from Dr. Cookie. It was just sitting at Neej's house. Where does the bridge go? It was way up the neck. Oh - I'm sticking with your tuning.

Fred D - Who are you taking lessons from?

The saddle sits on the square pickup. Dead center!
You will love the tuning. It's a steel players dream come true!
I just sent the last one in stock off to a guy in Nashville and am working on another 16 at this point.

Aloha,
