Aloha all -

I just received word from Milton Lau that he will be presenting the first ever Moloka`i Slack Key Festival in Kaunakakai, Moloka`i on Saturday, June 19th. The all day event is free to the public and will feature some of the finest slack key players from Moloka`i and neighboring islands; food booths and venders, and a wonderful slack key contest for keiki.

I don't have many details yet, but I wanted to let everyone know as soon as possible so you can plan to attend. Yes, we do have extended stay rates available at the Kaupoa Beach Village for those attending the Aloha Music Camp. But even more importantly, those of the Taro Patch `ohana who are planning on attending the Maui slack key camp can come over for the day (or two) and experience the wonderful Island of Moloka`i.

We'll be posting info on the Aloha Music Camp wesbite as soon as we can. Milton Lau's website is http://www.hawaiianslackkeyguitarfestivals.com/

This is a very exciting development and we are looking forward to working together to foster and promote the gentle art of ki ho`alu on the magical Island of Moloka`i.

Cheers,

Mark Nelson

Aloha all -

Here's some more info from Milton Lau's Slack Key Festival website: www.hawaiianslackkeyguitarfestivals.com

Some of you hot dogs might want to start warming up!

"2004 marks the inaugural year of the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival "Moloka'i Style".  After 22 years of the festivals, we have finally found a way to implement the festival on the "Friendly Island" of Molokai.  If you are looking for a small town "feeling" and a throwback to early Hawaii, then you should come to the festival on Molokai.  The festival will be held in Kaunakakai Town Center at the Mitchell Pauole Center on June 19th, 2004.  Besides featuring some of the best slack key guitar artists from around the state, we will also feature some of Molokai's best.  The festival is scheduled from 10:00  AM - 6:00 PM.  Between the hours of 10:00 AM - 12:00 Noon, we will be holding a slack key guitar competition for all budding "closet" artists who are waiting to be discovered.  The winner of the competition will win a brand new "Big Baby" Taylor Guitar and $100.00 in cash prize.  Further, if interested, the winner will also be able to attend Keola Beamer's "AlohaMusicCamp" from June 20-26, 2004 with a tuition waiver (see www.AlohaMusicCamp Website).  Also, available on festival day will be great local food and hawaiian crafts along with all of your favorite artists cds, tapes, videos, and festival t-shirt.  It will be a great day for our all of our visitors and kamaaina."

One clarification: we are not giving away a full registration to the June 20 - 26 Aloha Music Camp. Our intention is to help a young Moloka`i resident attend the camp as a day student - so the scholarship goes to the winner of the under 17 contest.

cheers,

Mark Nelson
