| We just got back from Santa Barbara. The concert was outstanding with the new gen spending time with the audience and signing cd's. The show went on a 8 and ended about 11 followed by an after party at a local spot. The weather was perfect, what a weekend! My wife is a UCSB grad so we spent a little pre-show time walking the campus, which is a diverse collection of architecure. The guys are in the final weeks of the tour so it you are waiting the wait will be worth it. You will only be disappointed when they waive good bye and leave the stage for the last time.....Happy Sunsets! |

The show in La Jolla was outstanding. It was very much as Fran and Lawrence previously described. So, I won't go into detail. It was completely different from their last tour through here last year.
Thanks to Don Narup for his organizational skills. Everything went smoothly with the venue. There was a nice sized crowd in attendance.
Only bad thing - there were no hana hou's. However it was a nice long concert. |

We were treated to a wonderful concert by the Next Generation tour (their last show!)and it was great as everyone has said. The variety and virtuosity of the uke in the hands of David Kamakahi and Herb Ohta Jr. is really amazing. The show here was David, Herb, Patrick Landeza, Keoki Kahumoku and Rev. Dennis Kamakahi. Highlights for me, including everything everyone else has mentioned is David's "Begin the Beguine" and the double ukes on "Europa" and "Sir Duke." Also, Keoki and Herb Jr. doing "Wahine U'i" was great. When all five ganged up to do "Hi'ilawe", each took a solo and showed even more variety. Here's a picture of the crew singing "Hawai'i Aloha" at the end of the night. http://www.imbris.net/~jessehj/pics/nexgenconcert.jpg The food was great, too! Patrick came out and served appetizers during intermission, and when they started blinking the lights to make people sit down, Patrick yelled across the room "Wait! We're still serving over here!" They waited. We ate. Jesse Tinsley |
