Aloha to everyone,
What a great site! Where I live, on the North Coast of Ca, there aren't too many uke or slack key players...but I know they are just waiting for someone else to play with. I build ukuleles and surfboards out of my little shop in Fort Bragg, called North Pacific Surf Shop, my ukes are the North Pacific label. 707 961 0314 I got into building 5 years ago, with encouragement from David Hurd, of Kawika Ukuleles in Hilo. I have played guitar most of my life, my Dad being a guitar player from way back. We used to buid classical guitars when I was a teenager, also way back there!! I grew up on Oahu, in the late 40's through the 60's, out in the country in Haleiwa. It WAS true paradise then. I need to get back for a family reunion soon. Anyway, I look forward to checking in to the Taropatch now and then, thanks for keeping Aloha alive! - Paul Kraus

Welcome, Paul! This is the best site for talking about Hawaiian music and slack key. Everyone shares aloha here and none of the spiteful sniping you find on some forums. Please feel free to post pictures of some of your ukes, we'd like to see them. Many here will agree that the Hawaii you grew up in is pretty much gone, but there's still aloha spirit and good music to hear and play. E komo mai! Jesse Tinsley |

Yes - and are there any other questions you would like to float?
But remember... No dull or "wooden" responses allowed here!...
...and no "light" comments either!
We here all "stick" to the "grain" of truth, and none of us ever make any puns... or "snap" judgements either...
(yeah, ...right)
You are most welcome to join in!...

Eh Brudda Paul,
Where you been brah! Not alot of us kine guys up here, especially in Fort Bragg, but we do exist. I like to get together wid you for some kanikapila. Kind of tied up until after the KMUD Luau, but after that, you like jam, I'm there. Maybe I bring my I bring my uke strumming buddy from Philo, Dennis Hudson, a founding member of that notorious, semi legendary Anderson Valley quartet " the Ukeholics ", who recently wowed the crowd at the Wild Iris Festival with their version of " Knights in White Satin ', complete with dry ice induced fog. Anyway I'm in the phone book, or find me the way everybody else does, at Harvest Market. Good to see someone else from the North Coast posting on this great site.
Aloha,
Michael |

Mahalo to all for this warm welcome..(more than I get in Hawaii!!!). Michael, I'll stop by and make a time to jam, or come by my shop. Sikho, I shape balsa surfboards, in da kine old style, learned from one of the masters, OLE, who I worked for back in the dim past of the 60's. For years I supplied balsawood to shapers in Hawaii and Calif, I went to S.America and cut my own wood, and imported. What an adventure, but I'm no longer doing that, too many projects! thus, BalsaBoy. A hui hou, Paul |
