Once again, Hawaiian music and hula have a special showcase at the Northwest Folklife Festival (Seattle Center, May 26-29.)
This year, the `ukulele show continues to grow, with a celebration on Sunday, May 28, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm in the Bagley Wright Theatre, featuring Bruddah Dem (11:00), Da Uddah Guyz (11:40), Na `Opio Ha`aheo youth group (12:20), and the Seattle `Ukulele Players Association/SUPA (1:00.)
Then the annual Polynesian show takes place from 2:00 to 5:00 in McCaw Hall, with `ukulele players starting the show and leading into performances from four local hula hâlau: Hâlau Hula Pulamahiaikalikolehua, Ke Liko A`e O Lei Lehua, Na Lei O Manu`akepa, and Hâlau Hula `O Napualani.
Also at Folklife, in a Hawaiian vein, check out Na Leolani (Sat. at 12:10, Café Impromptu at McCaw Hall), Malihini Boys (Sun. at 12:20, Alki Court), and Stowaways In Paradise (Sun. at 7:00, International Dance Stage.)

Dem's just me'n'Susy---we didn't choose the name, 'twas given by somebody over-impressed by our singing <EG>. We're kinda like the Islanders 5 claimed for their CD: No verra guid, but aye loud! |

For those who don't know the other TP'ers who will be part of all this, thumbstruck is one of Da Uddah Guyz, and I play with SUPA and Hâlau Hula `O Napualani. |

| SUPA had a rehearsal yesterday of their Folklife material, and the cowboy-themed set will also be enhanced by the exceptional contributions of Kory "Thumbstruck" on guitar & accordion, and Jack on steel guitar. See you at Folklife! |

Just wanted to give this thread one more bump (I'll be away from computers for a couple weeks, starting tomorrow.) Hope a lot of folks in the Upper-Left-Hand Corner of the map will come out to Folklife, and can check out these shows. In case you've never been, this is Folklife's 35th anniversary, and it's the largest FREE folk fest in the US. Info and schedules at http://www.nwfolklife.org. =Gregg= |
