TPers, some of you may already know, but as of 5:00 today, I'm going on the public dole - retiring. Who cares? What matters is that I've been a programmer for 37 years and I hate computers. Since no one is going to pay me to program any longer, I won't be near a computer too often; therefore, I won't be watching the goings on with the TP quite as frequently. I'll still check in once in a while. I've updated my email on the Taro Patch profile. Thanks to all who have helped me over the years and thanks to Andy for starting this.

Will we still see you on Tuesdays to catch up?

You know we love and respect Chunky Monkey!! A heartfelt Congratulations.

Welcome to the club, Terry.

But, an uncertain prediction:

You know that I, too, was in the computer biz most of my working life and I, too, hated them. What I liked was what they did for people. So, now that I don't have to make them do the right thing, I use them as an appliance. This laptop is just a funny kind of communication device that gives me a window on the world. Maybe you will just treat it as just that, in between doing all the important things in life. Anyway, don't disappear.

I vote for the organization of the Chunky Monkey Island Caravan and Slack Key Adventure Tours.

As long as he doesn't make me hike anywhere I'll sign up for the first tour.

Terry, ain't nothin' wrong with retirement. I did it 12 years ago and I'm busier than ever. Teaching (I was a college prof) is more fun because I don't have to put up with the bureaucratic bull even though my students are now an even more mixed lot; I have sufficient time to write stuff which is more meaningful to me and hopefully to my readers; I can sail and ski mo bettah 'cause I have time to do those things which I love (although I don't surf anymore); and I can apply myself to slack key guitar and ukulele because I can now do so without looking over my shoulder at the clock (even though I'm sure Pua Kai doesn't believe this part ; my fault, not hers).

So take advantage of your current circumstances and go for it.

Now's the time too play catch-up on life. Work is OK if kept to a minimal level, but who can do that?

OK chunk, here's the secret to a successful retirement:

1. Be kind and considerate.
2. Don't irritate Mrs. Chunk. (Most Important)

(Right Reid?)

Actually here is what chunky monkey is really going to be doing:

Naah...

...Can't be Heavy Metal, he's not dressed right. Needs the face paint, shiny outfit or tights, possibly big high heeled boots and the V-Shaped guitar!

...Maybe it's more like regular Rock n' Roll Slack
