Dear John,
I just read your account of Kai's life and passing, and I too have tears running down my cheeks. It just doesn't seem fair to lose the little ones.
I think your best audience was when you played for him, long before you played for the celebration of his life.
aloha...

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I just recently buried my father with my mother in Kaneohe. The music at the services was amazing. He held ukulele classes at the senior center in his community and had many friends/students. They came to the services and played for him along with very talented musicians. I danced to E Kuu Morning Dew as they sang. My sister sang Pua Lilia, one of the songs they would sing together. Hiram Bell came and played Pua Lilia on his ukulele. Ka'ala Carmack and his group played and organized the musical tributes. There was alot of aloha in the tributes to my father. There were two days of love and music here in California and one last tribute on Oahu. My father would have loved that. I am so grateful for the love and aloha during his services and will always remember the music. Your little one was a very special soul. You may have lost him once, but you will never lose him again. He remains in your heart forever. My aloha to you and your ohana. As my father would have said, "keep playing."
Thank you for sharing your story.

Debbie: Mahalo for sharing your story……..your Dad’s services sounded beautiful. We are fairly new residents to Washington State and our lives have centered on our grandkids since we’ve been here so our circle of friends isn’t very large. But we did have some music for Kai’s services. As I noted, my son and I played and a couple that we met also played and sang. She is the daughter of Raymond Kane and sings beautifully and her husband played and sang as well. Several people told us how much they enjoyed the music and that they'd never been to a service quite like that. I'm certain that Kai enjoyed the music too.

Raymond: Mahalo for your kind words and congratulations on the “new prospective member” that has been added to your family.

Aloha,
John A.

My thought are with you and your family at this time.

I once performed with a friend of the family. Eventhough I did not personally know the man, the music I played and sang was familiar to everyone including the man who had just left us. Everyone assumed I know the man since I played his style of music and I was there. It was a powerful experience and one I will always cherish.

Look for reasons to be happy rather than excuses to be miserable.

I just read this now and am so sorry to hear about the death of Kai. However, I'm glad that you had a nice service. Music makes you remember past times in your life. It can surely touch the heart.
